Journey 6 - Grenache

While Grenache may not be a household name like Cabernet or Pinot Noir, it is responsible for crafting some of the world’s best wines.   In fact, many argue that it combines the best of both, with the structured ripeness of Cab and the enticing perfume of Pinot.   

A grape that loves warmth, Grenache is at home in Mediterranean climates and has traditionally been valued in blended wines.  We’ll look at how it expresses itself with its favorite friends as well as its ability to stand proudly alone across the globe.

2018 A Tribute to Grace, Santa Barbara, California -- Dedicated to her grandmother, A Tribute to Grace was founded by Angela Osborne who traveled from New Zealand to California in order to produce wine from her favorite grape Grenache.  Sourcing grapes from high elevation sites in central California help to define her signature of a fresh and vibrant wine, with notes of strawberry and licorice.

2017 Alvaro Palacios - Les Terrasses, Priorat, Spain -- Located in the mountains outside of Barcelona, Priorat produces some of the boldest wines in Spain.  Alvaro Palacios captures that boldness and intensity here.

2017 Powell & Son, Barossa Valley, Australia -- In the early 1990's, Dave Powell revitalized 100 year old Grenache vines and established the cult Australian wine Torbeck.  His new project Powell & Son brings the same expertise and quality of fruit that was used for Torbeck.  Enjoy flavors of concentrated plums, mulberries and violets.
